We've all been there - once spring rolls around, you open your windows and begin to shed your layers (Literally and figuratively!) And don't get us wrong - we love those cozy winter months - but there's something wonderful about letting some fresh air into your space. For whatever reason, once that happens, it has a way of making your familiar surroundings feel a little bit dusty and outdated. If you're like me, the places where you spend the most time are the ones that end up feeling totally blah and uninspiring. The biggest culprit for me? My office.
Hours spent on Pinterest can offer tons of inspiration, but what happens when you're craving a reset, but your budget isn't exactly on the same page? We've rounded up our top five tips of refreshing your workspace without spending a dime. Each of these quick tips can be completed in 10 minutes or less, and give me just the breath of fresh air I've been craving.
1. Later, Germs!
Say goodbye to those gross flu season germs. Wipe down your desk area, mouse, and picture frames with a cleaning solution. Grab a few cotton swabs, and dip them in rubbing alcohol. Wipe down your keyboard, phone, and any other small crevices. Nothing feels as good as being clean. I even went so far as to add a layer of kraft paper to the top of my desk. It's a Craigslist find that I love, but it's in desperate need of a fresh layer of paint. Since I was on a budget and crunched for time, the paper totally created the sense of a fresh new space. I can even doodle or jot down notes as needed, and I'll just replace the paper once it's worn out.
2. Fix It.
You spend so much important time in your office. It's crucial that you create a space that leaves you feeling inspired and calm. Take a few minutes to fix the small little annoyances you stare at every day but never address. Grab your eraser sponge and wipe the scuffs on the wall. Dust your lampshades (Pro tip - a lint roller or a large paintbrush is more productive than your average duster!) Wipe up that coffee you spilled last week. You'll be amazed by how much just clearing out some of the dust bunnies opens up your mind to new ideas.
3. Put it Away.
Desk space is a premium. Recycle unnecessary papers, file away things you'd like to save, and find a new spot for things you no longer need. Our favorite rule of thumb is to only leave things on our desk that we use at least once a week. By making space for the things we regularly use and love, our space instantly becomes more relaxing and enjoyable.
4. Freshen it Up!
If you're lucky enough to have a window in your workspace (Ahem, I spent far too many years in a windowless office. #respectthestruggle) open them up! Wash your curtains! Let the beautiful spring air inside. Take some deep breaths and thank your lucky stars. Then, bring some of the outside in! Find a plant or clip a few branches in your yard. Plants provide much needed cheer and even filter your air for better air quality. If you have an essential oil diffuser, our absolute favorite spring blend at the moment is peppermint, orange, and lime. It's totally refreshing. PS - that simple kraft paper swap earlier also doubles as a perfect Instagram photo background. Yes, please.
5. Swap it Out.
Do you ever notice how you'll get a natural boost of creativity when you switch up your routine? You can get this same effect by just switching out the things you look at every day. Replace old photos with more updated images (just print something off Facebook in a pinch!), and find some fresh new inspiration to get you moving every day. We love framing cute greeting cards or magazine clippings. And if you're looking for something totally brand new - we've got your back! Click below to download this adorable FREE print! That's it! Now get to work. Your wonderful new workspace is waiting for you.
